CYSCOE at the Romanian Tourism Fair – Raising Cyber Awareness in the Travel Sector

CYSCOE – Cyber Security Cluster of Excellence participated in the Cybersecurity Workshop for Travel Agencies, organized during the Romanian Tourism Fair at RomExpo. The session aimed to address urgent cybersecurity challenges in one of the most data-dependent and digitally exposed sectors: tourism.

Representing CYSCOE, Alexandru Anghelus, President of the cluster, delivered an impactful presentation highlighting a real-world fraud scenario caused by a cyberattack using a stealer-type malware. This malware, designed to exfiltrate login credentials and session tokens, enabled attackers to access the digital infrastructure of a travel agency and commit financial fraud.

“In the case I presented, the malware silently harvested credentials from multiple platforms. The compromised access led to unauthorized transactions and major reputational damage for the agency—showcasing how a lack of security hygiene can have devastating consequences.”
